What is inositol?

Inositol is an isomer of glucose that exists in the cells of the body, especially in those of the brain and heart. It is also known as vitamin B8, although it is not actually a vitamin.

It plays an important role in the body, as a structural component of cell membranes. Studies have shown that it can contribute to the functioning of the nervous system and liver.

It is a component of many foods such as beans, melon, citrus fruits, nuts and seeds.

There is no recommended daily dosage for inositol. Recommended to be combined with choline

 

Precautions for use, interactions and side effects

Not to be taken by patients taking lithium medications. Taking it can reduce the absorption of iron, calcium and zinc. There are no studies on the safety of supplemental intake during pregnancy and breastfeeding and therefore it should be avoided.

Overdose may cause diarrhea and intestinal gas.
