Information - Saw Palmetto

What is Saw Palmetto?

Saw Palmetto or Serenoa repens is an herb traditionally used for prostate health.

Properties and benefits

It is an herbal aid for treating the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia such as difficulty starting to urinate or the frequent need to urinate.

Specifically, this benefit is achieved by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone.

In addition, based on the above mechanism, it is also recommended for the treatment of hair loss. Specifically, hereditary androgenetic alopecia.

Dosage

No recommended daily intake has been set. However, in dietary supplements you will find it in doses of 160-320 mg/day. It is recommended to be taken after food.

Precautions for use, interactions and side effects

Patients with a history of cholestasis should avoid taking saw palmetto. Do not take at the same time as anticoagulant or contraceptive treatment.

We recommend taking it away from caffeine as it may interfere with its absorption.

There are no studies on the safety of supplemental intake during pregnancy and breastfeeding and therefore it should be avoided.
