Information - Pregnancy Tests

Pregnancy tests detect pregnancy directly with 99% accuracy and are designed for home use. There are pregnancy tests that provide the result up to 6 days earlier than the first delay of the period, but also digital tests that show how many weeks you are pregnant.

When should I take the pregnancy test?

For more accurate results you can take the test one week after the first day of menstruation, as β-chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels will have increased. Of course, hCG levels vary from woman to woman so the test can be done before the first day of the delay.

How do they work;

Tests detect pregnancy based on the amount of "pregnancy hormone", i.e. β-chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone is produced during pregnancy when the fertilized egg is implanted in the uterus. The test will be negative if the hCG is below 5 mIU/ml. If the hormone levels are above 25 mIU/mL, then conception has taken place. A hCG level between 6 and 24 mIU/mL does not confirm pregnancy and should be reviewed to see if the rate has increased.
