Calma - The only breast milk nipple for your baby
For mothers who are looking for ways to feed their baby with breast milk, Calma is the ideal solution. Calma was developed based on the results of our studies in collaboration with the University of Western Australia (UWA). That's why Calma is the only nipple for breastfed babies, as it allows them to drink, breathe and pause regularly, as they originally learned in the breast.
Whether you are breast-feeding or using Calma, the baby has to vacuum so that breast milk can flow. As soon as the baby stops breastfeeding, the flow stops, just like breastfeeding.
As with breastfeeding, your baby can:
• Drink, breathe and pause at its natural pace
• create a gap through a combination of tongue and jaw movements
• maintain the natural breastfeeding rate, which supports an easy transition from breastfeeding to breastfeeding with Calma again to the breast.
Instructions of use
Cleaning and Hygiene
- Use drinking water quality for cleaning.
- Clean all parts immediately after use to avoid dry up of milk residues and to prevent from growth of bacteria.
- Take care not to damage parts when using a brush.
- For hygiene reasons, we recommend replacing teats after 3 months.
- Note: Change in colours may occur. This will not affect performance.
Prior to first use and once daily
- Disassemble, wash and rinse all 3 parts.
- Place parts in a saucepan of sufficient capacity.
- Fill with cold water until the parts are well covered. Optionally, a tea spoon of citric acid may be added to avoid a build-up of lime scale.
- Heat and allow to boil for 5 minutes.
- Remove from stove and drain water.
- Dry parts with a clean towel.
After first use parts can be
- cleaned in top rack of dishwasher or
- using Medela Quick Clean Microwave Bags or steam sterilized according to manufacturer’s instructions.
After each use
- Disassemble and wash all parts in warm, soapy water.
- Rinse in clear water. Dry parts with a clean towel.
- After cleaning, when parts are not in use, put in a clean zip lock bag or store in a container with lid.
- Alternatively, the parts can be wrapped in a clean paper or cloth towel.
- Do not leave feeding parts in direct sunlight or heat or leave in disinfectant (‘sterilising solution’) for longer than recommended by the supplier, as this may weaken the parts.
- Do not touch the inside of all parts, to avoid contamination.

Cautions
Inspect before each use and pull the teat and different parts in all directions. Throw away at the first signs of damage or weakness.
Always use this product under adult supervision. All parts which are not in use must be kept out of children’s reach.
Never use a teat as a soother.
Continuous and prolonged sucking of fluids can cause tooth decay.
Always check the temperature of food before feeding it to your baby (risk of burning).
Do not warm milk in a microwave oven as this may cause uneven heating and could scald your baby
