Omega-3 is a group of essential unsaturated fatty acids that cannot be synthesized by our body, so we must necessarily take them daily from our diet. Of this group of omega-3 fatty acids, two are the most prominent: EPA and DHA.
DHA & EPA help maintain normal blood triglyceride levels (daily intake of 2 g DHA in combination with EPA), normal blood pressure (daily intake of 3 gr DHA in combination with EPA) and normal heart function. Contraindications
EPA lowers blood pressure, thus increasing the effect of antihypertensive drugs. In addition, it is contraindicated while on anticoagulant therapy. Furthermore, studies have shown that fish oils reduce the effect of birth control pills.
