Almond & almond oil

Did you know that the almond is considered the “king of nuts”? It’s full of healthy fats, fiber, phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals that make it a nutritional powerhouse!

So it’s no surprise that almond oil is extremely popular for its immense benefits for hair, body and skin. Are there reasons to use this oil even if you eat a handful of almonds every day?

So let’s see the reasons to incorporate it into your beauty routine.

What properties does it have?

  • Moisturizes the skin
  • Reduces puffiness under the eyes and dark circles
  • It helps with hair health and growth
  • It is anti-aging
  • Prevents stretch marks
  • Treats skin diseases

Almond oil uses

Almond oil: Wrinkles

It is great for reducing fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. It fights aging by destroying free radicals and provides the nutrients your skin needs to repair itself.

How to use it:

  • Start by cleansing your face (You should never apply oil (or any kind of moisturizer) to a dirty face as it will trap the dirt and this could lead to blackheads and breakouts).
  • Place a few drops of the oil in your palm and rub your palms together to warm the oil.
  • Gently clap your hands over your face and neck.
  • Wipe off any excess oil if needed (If you have very dry skin, you could leave it on your skin. If your face is very oily, use a cotton pad to wipe away any residue).

Almond oil for stretch marks

It is one of the most effective natural remedies to control stretch marks. The vitamin E it contains is known for its skin repairing properties.

A 15-minute massage applied with almond oil during pregnancy was found to reduce the development of stretch marks.

How to use it:

Heat some oil, massage your skin for 10-15 minutes in circular motions and let it absorb.

Almond oil: Eyelashes

Eyelashes, like other parts of your body, benefit from daily moisturizing. This is especially true if you use mascara. Since the mascara dries quickly and doesn’t smudge, it also dries out the lashes.

Using it on your eyelashes can help hydrate and strengthen them thanks to vitamin E, magnesium and calcium.

How to use it:

  • Wash the eye area and remove all makeup.
  • Dip an eyelash brush in some almond oil.
  • Carefully apply to your lashes starting at the root as you would mascara (Be careful not to put the oil in the eyes as this can cause irritation, redness and swelling for up to 48 hours).
  • Do it at night so it has all night to work its wonders.

Due to the 4-6 week lash growth cycle you will need to be patient until you see results.

Almond oil for hair

In fact, almond oil is the perfect hair oil when it comes to treating hair loss due to its richness in vitamin E. It is a powerful antioxidant and is known to repair damaged hair. It also contains biotin, which your hair needs for healthy growth.

How to use it:

  • Use it as a hair oil: Pour a few drops of it into your palms, rub them together to distribute the oil evenly, then work it through the length of your wet hair.
  • Apply it to the scalp to treat flaky skin: Almond oil is a natural, soothing treatment for inflammatory scalp problems like psoriasis. If your scalp feels irritated, try mixing it with chamomile oil and applying the mixture to your scalp. If you have dandruff mix it with lemon oil. Wash off with shampoo afterwards.
  • Mix it with olive oil: To treat severely damaged or brittle hair caused by styling or coloring apply an almond oil-olive oil mixture throughout your hair for extra shine and softness.

Atopic dermatitis

It is high in fatty acids which help restore the skin’s epidermal barrier, lock in more moisture and reduce irritation. Due to its moisturizing properties, it has been used to treat dry skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Almond oil or castor oil?

Both of these oils are excellent for use on skin, hair and nails. Almond oil does not evaporate easily and has a milder smell compared to castor oil. But which is the best choice?

Castor oil helps make hair thicker and healthier, while almond oil helps hair grow, smoothes and treats hair loss.

Almond oil is more ideal for use on the skin as it has a thinner texture and is more easily absorbed than castor oil, is excellent at removing make-up and treats skin conditions such as rashes, eczema and psoriasis.

Likewise, castor oil is antibacterial and antifungal, so it is also suitable for treating skin conditions.
