“I have minimal time every day, does it matter if I put my moisturizer in the eye area?”

Your moisturizer does not adequately protect the sensitive eye area. The eye area needs special care because it is more sensitive and four times thinner than the rest of the face – resulting in faster signs of aging. Which eye cream is worth trying according to your needs?

Eye cream for dark circles

There are many reasons why you may have dark circles. Usually, lack of sleep, fatigue and endless hours in front of a screen are the causes of dark circles.

Different formulas can rid you of dark circles. Here are some basic ingredients to look for in your eye cream.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant and adding it to your treatment routine will reduce the free radicals caused by UV exposure. In eye creams, vitamin C inhibits the production of melanin, while at the same time it will lighten the pigmentation and brown spots. The eye area will get a glowing look!

Try Natura Siberica Oblepikha C-Berrica Antioxidant Eye Cream which helps fight dark circles and fatigue after an exhausting day.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is great for blemishes, as it controls the production of sebum in the skin. It also helps reduce hyperpigmentation and increases the production of tiles on your skin, enhancing the function of the skin barrier. In eye creams, it is a valuable ingredient for improving uneven skin tone.

Eye cream for wrinkles / fine lines

The fine lines and the goose foot around the eye area are, unfortunately, where the first signs of aging appear. If you want to reduce the fine lines around the eye area, it is good to choose an eye cream that contains retinol, peptides, or hyaluronic acid.

Retinol

Retinol, as you may already know, is a unique anti-aging ingredient. It is a derivative of vitamin A and helps increase collagen production and cell renewal rate. There are many products with topical retinoids (applied to the skin) and are specially designed for the eye area to improve the texture and appearance of the skin. In case your skin is sensitive, it is good to be careful.

La Roche Posay Redermic Retinol Yeux is an anti-aging eye cream that acts against wrinkles, dark circles and signs of fatigue. Its composition contains pure retinol and gradual release retinol.

Peptides

Peptides are arguably less invasive. These are amino acids that make up some of the proteins that the skin needs.

More specifically, collagen consists of three polypeptide chains, so the addition of peptides helps to enhance collagen production. The increase in collagen leads to firmer and younger looking skin.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is an acid, although it is not as scary as its name suggests. HA is a molecule made up of enzymes – more specifically, a glycosaminoglycan that has the ability to bind and retain water molecules [1].

As the natural levels of hyaluronic acid in the skin decrease over time, skin care products with hyaluronic acid, such as eye cream, replenish lost natural volume. The American Academy of Dermatology confirms that hyaluronic acid deeply moisturizes the skin resulting in wrinkles and fine lines appearing less noticeable over time [2].

Eye cream for swollen eyes & bags

Swelling of the eyes is actually fluid retention in the eye area. Most often it is caused by lack of sleep, allergies or salt consumption.

The best solution for puffy eyes or bags is a caffeinated eye cream.

Caffeine

Caffeine, as you already know, is a diuretic, which intensifies the loss of water from the body. Most caffeinated eye creams claim to help “wake up” your eyes, but this action is limited to reducing water retention in your eyes, the main cause of puffiness.

It also helps the appearance of dark circles in the eyes, reducing the accumulation of blood – which causes dark discoloration – under your eyes.

Vichy Mineral 89 Moisturizing Eye Cream is an eye gel cream with 89% Vichy spa mineral water, natural hyaluronic acid and pure caffeine that acts against dark circles and bags.

How is eye cream applied?

To get the most out of your eye cream, follow these steps for proper application:

  1. After cleansing your face, take a small amount of cream (pea size) and use your ring finger to apply the cream.
  2. Use your finger to create small dots under your eyes, starting from the innermost corner and working outwards. Avoid applying cream too close to your lower lashes.
  3. Apply the cream with gentle movements, without rubbing the area.
  4. Wait 2 minutes for the cream to be completely absorbed.
  5. Apply the rest of your skin care products and makeup.

Try not to use too much eye cream as it may penetrate the eyes and cause irritation. It is also not recommended to apply eye cream on your eyelids, unless the instructions recommend it.

As a general rule, eye cream because it has a “lighter” composition should be applied before sunscreen, whose composition is more “heavy”.

Extra tips for proper eye care

In addition to applying eye cream properly, follow these eye skin care tips:

  • Gently massage the skin around your eyes to improve circulation and reduce puffiness. You can use special face tools, such as the jade roller.
  • Avoid sleeping if you have not removed your makeup well. Use a gentle make-up remover suitable for use around the eyes.
  • When exposed to the sun, protect the eye area by always wearing sunglasses.
  • For extra protection wear a hat. The lip should be at least 3 inches wide to fully protect the eyes.
