Pomegranate contains large amounts of bioactive ingredients, such as flavonoids and polyphenols, and especially phenolic acids, such as active ellagic acid. Ellagic acid is a powerful antioxidant that acts against harmful free radicals while preventing aging. It can also provide some protective action against skin wrinkles by reducing collagen degradation caused by UVB rays, thereby helping to protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation.
Pomegranate and in particular the phenolic compounds found in its extract protect the cells and lipids from oxidation. This keeps blood cholesterol levels at normal levels, reduces the risk of atherosclerosis and blood vessel blockade.**
