Nature's Plus KetoLiving range includes a range of specially designed nutritional supplements for those on a low-carb, ketogenic, high-fat diet (Ketogenic or LCHF (Low-Carb, High-Fat)). The ketogenic diet promotes a biochemical state similar to fasting, called ketosis, in the body.
What is Ketosis?
Due to low carbohydrate consumption - which is the main source of energy - the body uses its reserves to maintain its essential functions. Initially, the energy reserves that exist in the form of glycogen are utilized. When these stocks are exhausted, the body looks for an alternative source of energy through a process called neoglycogenesis, where the body produces glucose using amino acids and triglycerides to meet its needs. After 2-3 days the nutritional ketosis mechanism is activated to produce energy, where the stored fat is converted into energy in the form of ketone bodies:? -Hydroxybutyric acid, acetoacetic acid and acetone.
Low carbohydrate intake in combination with high fat intake results in the liver producing ketones, substances that result from the metabolism of fats to produce energy. In the ketogenic diet, the main source of energy for the body is fat instead of carbohydrates.
