What is Echinacea?

Echinacea is an herb known for its action on the immune system. The main species of the plant widely used in dietary supplements are Echinacea purpurea and Echinacea pallida. We will find it in various forms, such as:

  • effervescent tablets

 

Benefits

In particular, the species Echinacea purpurea, Echinacea pallida and Echinacea augustifolia are traditionally used to relieve the common cold symptoms, while they are applied topically in cases of acne, due to their antibacterial effect.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Committee for Medicinal Products of Herbal Origin (HMPC) have approved the use of echinacea as a short-term traditional herbal aid for the prevention and treatment of the symptoms of the common cold.
