Digestive system begins with mouth and ends with anus. It is a tube where the body processes food in order to assimilate nutrients. It has a wisdom called “intestinal intelligence.” The saying “we are what we eat” shows the direct dependence of health from our digestive system.

The most common gastrointestinal problem is digestive indigestion. Indigestion is a precursor of many serious conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s disease. Digestion begins in the mouth. Teeth cut food , while saliva begins to digest it. When the food reaches as pulp the stomach, the digestion continues with stomach acids. Afterwards, food reaches small intestibe where are absorbed most of the nutrients. Finally, the collon absorb water and electrolytes. Poor digestion favors the creation of toxins, pathogens and acidic PH. These ,in turn, leads to nutrient malabsorption.

Abuse of food, alcohol, nicotine, drugs and processed foods cause indigestion and irritate stomach. This cause heartburn, spasm, vomiting, anorexia and flatulence. Factors that aggravate symptoms are:

1. Irregular eating times

2. Increased food consuption

3. Poor food quality

4. Poor mental state

Auxiliary therapy of gastritis are certain enzymes like vromelain, sodium alginate and certain herbs that sooth gastric mucosa like comfrey, althea, spiraea, anise, fennel, cumin Egyptian. You should also know that bitter herbs, such as artichoke, facilitate digestion.
