Rosehip extract or acerola? In the battle of antioxidants, many substances have been studied for the value and benefits to overall health.

Table of Contents

Rosehip extract

It is the extract of the plant Rosa Canina. Available either in capsules or in powder form. It is one of the richest sources of vitamin C and contains many nutrients and trace elements such as tannins, carotenoids, lutein, flavonoids, and lycopene.

Thanks to its rich nutritional value, rosehip extract has been used to treat many diseases. Originally thanks to its vitamin C composition, it is considered to be an excellent source of antioxidants that protect the body against oxidative stress. It is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, as thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, improves mobility, reduces pain and stiffness in joints.

Recent studies have shown its role in reducing total and bad cholesterol (LDL), thus improving cardiovascular risk. In addition, some studies have shown benefit in regulating blood pressure and serum glucose. Rosehip extract benefits even skin. Studies have shown that oral administration of rosehip extract reduced the depth of wrinkles in the craw feet, while further improved hydration and elasticity of the epidermis.

Taking rose hips has no side effects or interactions. It is recommended to take in the presence of a meal in powder form and the usual dose is 250-1000 mg daily in two doses.

Acerola

It is a fruit that looks like a cherry. Acerola comes from the tropical plant Malpighia glabra or else M. emarginata and is one of the richest sources of vitamin C. It is estimated to contain much higher vitamin C concentration than orange, lemon, and even berries (1,000 to 4,500mg / 100g).

In addition, it is considered as a rich source of carotenoids, flavonoids, anthocyanidins, vitamin A, iron, and calcium. Thanks to its high vitamin C content, it adopts all of its properties. It is used in cases of allergies, as it acts as a natural antihistaminic compound. It strengthens the immune system and offers strong protection against free radicals. Thanks to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it seems to have anti-cancer activity, while helping to reduce inflammation caused by obesity.

It also appears to have antibacterial and antifungal properties while helping to cope with colds and boost the immune system. It has no side effects, however, overdose can lead to gastrointestinal disturbances and increase the chances of formation of renal stone. The usual daily dose ranges from 40-100mg.
