Bags and swelling under the eyes is a common problem. Skin of the eyes is one of the most sensitive areas of the face. When we are young, the skin has the ability to renew its cells daily. With aging, the skin loses its elasticity and the signs of fatigue become more evident.

What are the bags around the eyes

The bags and swelling observed under the eyes are due to poor blood and lymph circulation. Blood transfers nutrients to the epidermis while lymph is responsible for eliminating toxins and wastes of cell metabolism. When poor blood circulation coexists with poor lymph function, there is an accumulation of fluids and toxins in the eye area. The result is puffiness and bags under the eyes.

Moreover, many times when there is an increased fat accumulation, which is accompanied by loss of elasticity of the epidermis under the eyelids, there is an intense shifting of the skin downwards, which highlights the outline of the eyes and make bags more obvious. Many times, bags under the eyes are observed in the morning, because of poor blood circulation during the night or even in some diseases due to increased fluid retention and fat accumulation.

Causes of eye swelling

There are people who, despite their lifestyle, never have bags under the eyes. The most common causes are:

  • heredity
  • poor nutrition
  • lack of sleep or poor sleep quality of sleep
  • overconsumption of alcohol
  • anxiety
