Bath salts have been known since antiquity, as they were used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes. Commercial bath salts imitate the properties of natural springs, offering plenty of benefits to the skin as well as to entire body.

Bath salts

Bath salts are water-soluble compounds added to water for cleaning, fun, treatment of skin diseases and cosmetic purposes. They are usually used for foot bath, pedicure or for a relaxing bath. Depending on the composition of salt, the properties vary, giving them several actions. Their common feature is that they renew the skin by transferring electrolytes and many trace elements. The most commonly used salts are:

Magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts)

Epsom salts regulate electrolyte levels in body. This ensures proper functioning of muscles, nerves and enzymes. They help reduce inflammation, promote good functioning of nervous system, reduce swelling, relax muscles and at the same time they are an excellent skin softener. Epsom salt is recommended for muscular pains, edema and bruises.

Magnesium Chloride (Magnesium Chloride)

Magnesium is one of the body’s major minerals. It contributes to proper function of nervous and muscular system, while also relieves muscular pain, cramps and tiredness. Its external intake through bath, helps in the treatment and relief of psoriasis as well as in various skin diseases.

Sodium carbonate (baking soda)

Soda helps to cleanse the skin while also provides antifungal properties. It improves the texture of skin, acting like a softener.

Salts from the Dead Sea

Salts from Dead Sea are rich in trace elements such as potassium, calcium, zinc, chloride and sodium. They provide relaxing and antiseptic properties, while also promote wound healing.

Glycerin

It is added as a softener and lubricant, offering hydration to the skin.

Additionally, in bath salts are also added oils (almond oil, St John’s Wort oil, calendula oil), essential oils, foaming and effervescent substances, fragrances and dyes. It would be advisable to avoid bath salts containing plain table salt or other sodium chloride.

Bath salts are the ideal way to renew yourself. Pick up the salt that meet your needs and enjoy a relaxing bath.
