Nattokinase benefits for cardiovascular health
The incidence of cardiovascular disease has increased significantly over the last decades. Cardiovascular disease is the first cause of overall morbidity and mortality. A powerful weapon to enhance cardiovascular function is nattokinase.

What is nattokinase?
Nattokinase is a protease, an enzyme that breaks down proteins, which originates from the plant Natto. Natto is a Japanese traditional food that comes from the fermentation of soybeans by Bacillus subtilis bacteria.
Historically in 1980 it was discovered for the first time that Natto can break down fibrinogen. The isolation of the enzyme with fibrinolytic properties was called nattokinase.
Nattokinase properties
Fibrin accumulation in the vessels results in thrombosis and cardiovascular disease. After discovering the effects of nattokinase, many studies have shown that it can break down blood clots by hydrolyzing the fibrin and the substrate of plasmin. Through various biochemical pathways, it increases the activity of the plasminogen activator (t-PA), which has fibrinolytic properties.
In addition, it has been shown that taking the nattokinase supplement has a positive effect on blood pressure levels as it blocks the action of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE).
Nattokinase benefits
Based on the above properties, many studies have highlighted the actions of nattokinase in supporting cardiovascular health. In particular, it has been shown that oral administration of contributes to
- Decrease of fibrin accumulation
- Reduction of existing clots and atherosclerotic plaque
- Reduction of blood coagulation
- Blood pressure reduction
- Improvement of blood circulation
The activity of the enzyme is enhanced by its ability to pass intact stomach acidity as it is resistant to acidic pH as well as to very high temperatures. Then, nattokinase is absorbed by intestinal mucosa, passing through the bloodstream, exerting its fibrinolytic properties.
Nattokinase dose and side effects
The recommended daily dose is 100-200 mg (10 mg / kg). People who take anti-coagulants or pregnant and breastfeeding women should not take supplements with nattokinase. It is also important to stop taking it 2 weeks before a surgery.
In Vita4you you can find nutritional supplements with nattokinase for a healthy cardiovascular system.
