There are many people who have sensitve and reactive skin with redness, although they don’t know the reasons why. Even if skin redness may not be a harmful or a serious dermatological disease, it requires proper diagnosis and treatment.

  • Spider veins, which mainly appear on face and legs.
  • Rosacea, an inflammatory dermatopathy characterized by increased capillary permeability and increased redness.

Symptoms you may notice are:

  • Itching on the body
  • Skin rashes
  • Pimples
  • Eczema
  • Inflammation

Possible causes

Skin redness is usually referred to as dermatitis and may be caused by

Redness after contact, allergic or contact dermatitis

It usually appears after contact with a substance or object that causes skin irritation. It is usually difficult to find the cause of redness but common reasons are contact with fruits, cleaning products, make-up products, plants, chemicals, flora and textiles. Many times skin redness appears after contact with certain metals, as in case of jewelery.

Redness and atopic dermatitis

Localized redness, rashes with intense itch that can be localized throughout the body. It is referred to as atopic dermatitis or eczema and is a fairly frequent dermatopathy, the frequency of which has been increased significantly in recent years. The causes of eczema have not yet been elucidated, however, it is believed that have genetic and environmental roots.

Redness from photoallergies

They appear on skin due to sun exposure and skin’s reaction to UV radiation. Usually resolves after skin is blackened, because is then protected from UV radiation, due to melanin production.

Tips

As redness may be due to hereditary causes or environmental factors, it is very important to identify the cause, so that it can be treated appropriately. In any case, some general rules for prevention and treatment are:

  • Avoid hot water and bath (hyperemia)
  • Use special cleansers and moisturizing products (creams for redness) that do not cause skin irritation and create a protection film layer from external factors.
  • Avoid using softeners and use suitable detergents for sensitive and / or atopic skin.
  • Hydrate skin
  • Treat stress
  • Choose cotton clothing
  • Use sunscreen products specifically designed for sensitive skin with high to very high protection filters.
