Protect your prostate naturally

22/06/2016

The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located between the bladder and the penis. The prostate is just in front of the rectum. The urethra runs through the center of the prostate, from the bladder to the penis, letting urine flow out of the body. The prostate secretes fluid that nourishes and protects sperm. During ejaculation, the prostate squeezes this fluid into the urethra, and it’s expelled with sperm as semen. Usual prostate problems are prostatitis and hyperplasia.

Prostate symptomes

Symptoms of enlarged prostate can include a weak or slow urinary stream, a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying, frequent urination, urgency to urinate, an urinary stream that starts and stops. 1 out of 3 men after the age of 50 will have prostate problems.

What is prostatitis

Prostatitis is often described as an infection of the prostate. It can also be an inflammation with no sign of infection. Just 5% to 10% of cases are caused by bacterial infection. It does not raise the risk of getting prostate cancer. Prostatitis can affect men of all ages. Chronic prostatitis may also be related to other urinary tract infections.

Herbs for prostate health and protection

Natural remedies and herbs are available and can reduce prostatitis and enlarged prostate symptoms and infections.

Saw Palmetto

Saw palmetto is used mainly for urinary symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate gland also called benign prostatic hyperplasia. Saw palmetto is also used for other conditions, including chronic pelvic pain, bladder disorders, decreased sex drive, hair loss, and hormone imbalances.

Pumpkin seed oil

A reason for pumpkin seed oil’s remarkable benefits is the high content of unadulterated parent Omega 6 (Linoleic Acid) an essential fatty acid. Omega 6 has been identified to ease symptoms of benign enlargement and decrease prostate cancer risk. Omega 6 affects many functions including production of sexual hormones giving the body a chance to correct any imbalances, correlating to the same effects of beta-sitosterol. Essential fatty acids in the correct ratios also produce the body’s natural steroids including anti-inflammatories .

Pollen

A special extract made from rye and other pollens was first discovered to provide dramatic relief not only from the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, but also from the symptoms of prostatitis.

Lycopene

Lycopene inhibits androgen receptor expression in prostate cancer cells in vitro and, along with some of its metabolites, reduces prostate cancer cell proliferation and may modulate cell-cycle progression.

Nettle

Stinging nettle possessed compounds that may inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a potent androgen hormone associated with prostate enlargement.

IP-6

IP-6, inositol hexaphosphate, is a vitamin-like substance. IP-6 might help treat and prevent cancer by slowing down the production of cancer cells. IP-6 is also an antioxidant.

Epilobium

Traditional uses for this herb includes treatments for enlarged prostate, inflammation of the prostate (prostatitis).

Pygeum africanum

Pygeum contains chemicals that help shrink the prostate to relieve urinary problems such as poor urine flow and nighttime urination in men with enlarged prostates.

Aminoacids

Aminoacids such as glycine, glutamine, alanine and histidine have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action and protect the reproductive system of men.

Foods and nutraceuticals for prostate health

  • Lycopene is a carotenoid, a natural pigment made by plants and various fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, apricots, guavas, and watermelon.
  • Eating more than one serving of broccoli and cauliflower a week may reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
