In our gastrointestinal tract there are bacteria, beneficial and non-beneficial which coexist in a delicate balance. If it is disturbed for some reason e.g. unhealthy diet, drugs - mainly antibiotics - stress, disease, etc., then our immune system weakens, while intestinal disorders, vaginal fungal infections in women, intolerances or food allergies may occur.
Beneficial bacteria, known probiotics, are very important for maintaining and improving the health of intestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, irritable bowel etc. Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, can be found in foods such as kefir, traditional yogurt or yogurts that indicate they contain a yogurt culture e.g. Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus bulgaricus etc. For more immediate intestinal enrichment with probiotics, a supplement such as Nature's Plus Acidophilus, which contains 40 million live acidophilic cells, is an ideal choice.
In addition, it contains citrus pectin. Pectin is a fiber found in fruits that, when combined with water, forms a gel. Therefore, it is considered to improve diarrhea and constipation in a way similar to the psyllium (taking advantage of its gel form).
