Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid or GABA) belongs to the non-essential amino acids and is formed by glutamic acid. It acts soothing to the central nervous system and the brain, so it can help insomnia and cerebral functions.
It is considered an inhibitory neurotransmitter of the central nervous system. GABA is mainly synthesized from glutamic acid via the enzyme decarboxylase glutamate (GAD) with pyridoxal phosphate (active form of vitamin B6) as a cofactor.*
Simply put, it has a calming and soothing effect on the central nervous system and the brain, so it can help with insomnia, overstimulation, intense stress, but also with general brain functions. *
